Judicial Family Programs: Nevada CONTACT: Michael Bell, Judicial Education
Coordinator Provides education for judges and partners (although not yet for children) in stress management. One course utilizes a stress inventory for judges and their partners and followup classes (one for judges, one for partners) on interpreting the results of the stress inventory, followed by a joint session for judges and partners on stressor definitions, recognition, and modification. A second course utilizes
one-to-one conversations with judges about stressors they encounter,
a presentation on the results of those conversations to a joint audience
of judges and partners, and a lengthy guided discussion among judges
and partners on stress recognition and modification. CONTACT: In the 60s, 70s and 80s,
The National Judicial College (NJC) had a "Spouses' Program"
that featured fellow spouses speaking about certain topics and also
featured NJC faculty who would present on various topics. The spouses
would also enjoy the local area with arranged events. NJC coordinated
the program. We also had a children's program in the summer that was
much like a day-care with activities scheduled for each day (e.g., going
to the pool, movies, roller skating, etc.).
