Innovations
in Courts
This section
of the JFI website offers judicial families information on some recent
court innovations. Often judicial families take a special interest in
court-related issues and work diligently to assist their court in making
improvements. Sharing information about innovations provides judicial
families with opportunities to highlight what their court is doing and
with information to introduce new approaches to their court, if appropriate.
JFI invites
you to contact us and share information about innovations in your court.

Self-Help Web Site
The Judicial Council provides a comprehensive Online Self-Help Center
(www.courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp/) for court users who do not have attorneys and others who wish
to be better informed about the law and court procedures. This Web site provides more than
1,000 pages of information on legal issues that come before state courts, with step-by-step
instructions for many common proceedings. It has over 2,400 links to other resources that
provide additional legal information, including resources for areas of law,
such as bankruptcy and federal claims that are not within the jurisdiction of state courts. The entire
Web site has been translated into Spanish. Domestic violence materials are also available in Vietnamese,
Chinese, and Korean. New features include short videos describing service of process,
presentation at hearings, and other concepts. The Web site now has over two million visitors
each year.
